In this role, you will serve as the leader of Social Driver’s User Experience (UX) team and function. This position can be based in our downtown Washington, DC or Kansas City, MO offices.
Director of User Experience - Role Description:

The Director of User Experience is a hands-on execution role that requires expert-level knowledge of UX and information architecture. This role is also a team lead role that requires a passion for growing and mentoring other members of the UX Team, fostering a culture of collaboration, coordinating with other teams and leadership at Social Driver, and leading client-facing conversations including intake meetings and project-related calls.

Specifically, you will:
Serve as a senior user experience specialist on selected projects and oversee/support the other UX specialists on their assigned projects.
Lead client meetings including presenting, working through exercises, and presenting your work and speaking to its merit.
Lead and mentor a small team of user experience specialists to build a team-based culture and motivational spirit for the user experience practice at Social Driver.
Ensure the highest level of quality and ensure that client commitments and goals are met.
Find creative solutions to client requirements that can be accomplished within the budget and timeline.
Create user friendly taxonomies and content architecture by taking disorganized website content and make sense of it for both users and staff at the client organization.
Help clients shape content to the web by being an excellent writer who understands how web copy differs from other mediums.
Coordinate and work with other departments including website designers and developers, project managers, account managers, and marketing specialists.
Use project management tools including Asana, Basecamp, and similar platforms.
Allocate and assign tasks to the user experience team.
You are a natural leader, teacher, and a mentor.
You are extremely comfortable in front of a room full of clients presenting, working through exercises, and presenting your work and speaking to its merit.
You like to ask questions, listen to answers, and are able to clearly express your opinions in ways that build consensus.
You are a team player and enjoy working with the design, strategy, SEO, and development teams to deliver your clients the best solutions.
You live and breathe taxonomies and content architecture. You can take the most disorganized site and make sense of it.
You are an excellent writer who understands how web copy differs from other copy.
You understand how to craft precise and clear language to communicating ideas effectively.
You act, present and rationalize your work as a subject matter expert to stakeholders.
You understand and can speak to the importance of a cohesive brand story across the entire ecosystem of a site or product.
You have no problem using whiteboards, sketch pads, or a laptop to quickly hash out ideas and solutions.
You love research and use it as your primary tool to defend best practices and help clients find creative solutions to their toughest problems.
You are a master multitasker. You are able to work on multiple projects at one time and meet deadlines.
Bachelor's Degree required
5+ years of website UX, UI and/or IA experience required
Agency and/or consulting experience required
Team leadership and people management experience required
Strong written communications and customer service skills
Exceptional analytical, communication (both written and spoken), and presentation skills with the ability to operate with energy and flexibility
Self-starter with strong time management, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple high-profile relationships in a fast-paced environment
Advanced knowledge of WordPress and Drupal
Advanced knowledge of content migration strategies
Advanced knowledge of website design best practices
Advanced knowledge of website content best practices
Moderate knowledge of HTML and CSS
Moderate knowledge of SEO
Experience work with nonprofits and/or association clients
Experience with Sketch and some Adobe (Photoshop/Illustrator)
